Profile
This talented
man started his career in Maldivian soccer from first division
club Youth, where he spent one season (1997) and moved to Club
Valencia and spent most of the years of his career with Valencia.
Ali Umar
or Ayya, is well known for his good dribbling. His goal against
Bangladesh in 2003 SAAF Championship final is unforgettable
as that goal gave Maldives hopes while they were one down against
the host, but sadly his beautiful goal didn’t save Maldives
from Bangladesh when Maldives were beaten in the shoot out.
Ayya believes
that his most unforgettable moment in club history is the golden
goal he scored for Valencia in the final of FA Cup in 1999.
Ayya moved
to Island Football Club in 2004. IFC was considered as the richest
club in Maldives at that time, but the big move he hoped ended
as a big failure when IFC was unable to lift any trophy in that
season and the club were unable to qualify for the Maldives’ most reputed soccer tournament, National Soccer Tournament.
When IF
failed to qualify for national tournament, Ayya moved to his
former club Valencia under a temporary leave from IFC and never
thought of going back to IFC again and instead he signed with
Valencia for another year.
Ayya, who
appeared in the National team for the first time in 1998 Asian
Games has never lost his position in the national side.
He won the
golden boot for top scorer in the year 2000.
This player
fit for a midfielder and a striker had offers from other major
clubs of Maldives this season (2005), but at the end he preferred
his old buddy, Valencia.
To play New Radiant one day, is a childhood dream of Ali Umar and signing to New Radiant for season 2006 fulfilled his one of the dreams in local soccer.
