Who's responsible this time?

Is Stoikov responsible?:

Of course it is a pity that Maldives got thrown out from the first round of a regional tournament and a lot of maldivesoccer.com readers had a lot to say about the reasons.

I might not be a football star neither a coach and I might have played football on the street. But I definitely have the passion for football and closely follow the Maldivian football.  Here is my say about why Maldives got thrown out from the regional tournament.

If the skipper did not have any self confidence of his crew, can he travel and reach the destination. I don’t think so. During a press conference held at FAM to announce the squad, national team coach Stoikov said that he was not happy with the time that he had for the preparation of the tournament. And complained about the exclusion of three overage players which highlights that he is not confident of his squad. Now I question my self whether he could improve the self confidence of the players when he, himself did not have the confidence of his squad to achieve the gold.

Next the national team left Maldives to Bangkok and played with Thailand clubs, while other nations got chance to play with Thai National Team and the under 23 team. Why couldn’t Maldives FA organize like all the other countries?

Some of the spectators might blame the loss on the schedule of the tournament. But I won’t. The scheduling was fair enough for all the teams. Pakistan played against Oman in the AFC Asian cup and of course they should be given time to come back and participate in the tournament. Maldives hosted against Sri Lanka and then played against Bhutan after 48 hours and then got a rest of 5 days. Meanwhile Sri Lanka got 5 days rest after playing against Maldives, then played against Pakistan and then against Bhutan. While Pakistan who played against Oman on 16th came to Sri Lanka and played on 19th and then played on 21st and 23rd and still won the tournament.  They played against Nepal in the semi finals after just 24 hours. So I am sure I will not blame the scheduling.

Next would be the referees, as they are the best way to getaway from criticism.  The home team would some time get the advantage of the referees and it is a fact. And this time also it happened but not to an extent that it would change the result of the game.

The tactics was the other. The tactics applied by the team failed tremendously. Introduction of Ifrah for Areesh really backfired them. With the consultation of goal keeper trainer, Fesco and all the other coaches, Ifrah was selected to play against Sri Lanka.

'Ifrah played much better in the friendly games compared to Areesh. that’s why we opted for Ifrah’ said Fesco.

But as soon as the goal scored by the Sri Lankans, Ifrah did not manage to hold a single ball.

Of course we all know that Dhagey is an exceptional player and like the international teams, their team play is based on these players. But not like how the Maldivian team played. Dhagey is a natural dribbler of the ball and use his physic really well when he play. But if he is marked by two or three players, should we give the ball to him. I am sure I will not agree to it. The tactics applied next was to dribble through the defense and shoot but it was not working for the Sri Lankan and the Bhutanese game. The tactic changed later against Pakistan and the team tried to shoot from outside the penalty area and both the first and second goal came from outside the penalty area. So why it was not utilized before?

The spirit of the team was not as I expected. I would cheer the team for the spirit they showed against the Pakistan, but I am completely dissatisfied for the spirit they showed in the other matches. They might be motivated, but not enough.

I would not blame luck for sure, because Maldivian team had the capacity to win the gold in the tournament with the squad they had and I strongly note that we do not have to wait for the result of other matches to qualify for the semi finals. We sure have the capacity, but we did not know how to utilize them.

The recent poor  performance in saaf games by our national team shows that the youth development programe is not achieving their objectives. I really advice FAM to make the youth development programe more effective in order to produce young players we need for the future. - jau

c'mon sinan, spare ifrah. he's only 17 and he's got a long wat to go. I think it's time for you guys to show some responsibility. I would have praised him if I was you for getting the first team spot. Evryone can do a mistake. Seems you guys are gonna ruin a long career. - koosani

I wud agree with the writer regarding the schedule. From a previous news of maldivesoccer.com they have highlighted that the schedule was changed like that because Pakistan had to play AFC Asian Cup match against Oman on the 16th of that month. So they could not participate before the 19th right? So the schedule was changed to give chance for them to participate. Besides it is the Asian Games and every nation should be given the chance. And i heard the schedule was passed by the AFC as the referees for the matches and the match commissioners were selected by the AFC. So i would give a big thumb for the writer. A good constructive critiscm by him - mohamed

i would agree with sinan for 1 reason
* "During a press conference held at FAM to announce the squad, national team coach Stoikov said that he was not happy with the time that he had for the preparation of the tournament. thats 1 thing that we can say a cause of this loss, but no 1 can blame the team playes. because when FAM takes a new natinal team squad, i am sure that more than half of the team's players would be from the 23 squad, i would blame stoikov and i will say that e didnt kno how to manage the team.

What happened when he changed the team later in the Pakistan match? the play  of the whole team canged as he changed the tactics. i would say that pakistan match last half was the best piece of footbal i've ever seen and wil see in the whole football history of Maldives. but its possible to see a better play if we get a gud coach and could motivate the players more than this time. - shamaan

I can agree with the writer on some points hes trying to make but not all.

#I agree with you that the coach was trying to save his job by saying the team was not prepared.
# I agree with you that the FAM could have tried harder and got better matches.

Howerever, i dont agree that -:
# All teams had equal chances because of the schedule. The schedule was completely biased. Firstly, how can one team have two games at hand while the other teams had completed all of their games? this gives a very unfair advantage. Didnt you think of that point. DOnt just think about the gap inbetween. If i was heading the FA, i would even have played following that ridiculous schedule. Would you say that a pitch full of water will have the same effect on both teams? Of course not. it will give a very big advantage to the weaker team obviously.

Secondly, please dont pick the team. i cant and you cant. we didnt go for all the practices. we didnt see all the matches. we dont know the players attitude. if so. Please dont comment.

Dhagey was the most important player surely. DId you see the goal he scored against pakistan? i didnt. they say it was a wonderful piece of individual skill. What have you got to say? every team depends on their best players. SO wil lmaldives.

Of course i want the team to win a gold medal as badly as you. And we have some things to improve if we are to do that. If you guys also want that, give constructive critisism. Dont ask the FAM to do stupid things like giving the COACH position to MAatey. Now that would be a real joke. - Murad
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FAM won’t take responsibility. They will just stay its a good experience and it will help them the next time.” AS USAUL" they will say nobody has to take responsibility and that it was just bad luck.
These guys are hopeless.” somebody PLASE throw out those guys in the association and get some capable  people to do the job OR stop spending the millions of rufiyaa they spend on football and start spending it on a more worthy cause.!!!! - xaan

I totally agree with you Sinan. I think FAM has to think a bit more if they want to bring a championship title to Maldives, and even to improve in the FIFA ranking. They have to analyse and find who should take resposibility in this. And make great plans for the fiture. Not only making plans, but also implement them. I think Maldives has great players to fulfill our dreams, but why cant we get a title!
We all want a championship title with us soon. Hope FAM will think abt this. - Bad

FAm should have given responsible(Hed Couch) to Moosa not Stoikof - Raaix
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

national team coache has to take the responsibility of the loss.beacuse before the tournament he told that he told that he dont have any gurantie to get a good result..beacuse of this players dont have their own confidence for the tournament - hassan adam
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As we look at the past 10 years to 15 years, the maldivian football had climbed the highest steps.. and we beleve that the national teams now has the capability to bring a gold home. It is our dream. The latest maldivian national squad and U23 squad had been the strongest and skillfull teams selected in our history. But i feel that failure to achieve our target is a placed on the management and coach. We hav seen him fail twice now... We hav seen his tactics failing our hopes,... N we hav heard his reasons .... Y cant FAM find a better coach for us. i think with the capability of players we have today we can achieve our target.... We only need a prepared wel understanding coach hu is not selfish... It is wat we saw in him for his time in developing our national teams - Moad
