I got a chance to go Hungary: Assad
16 June 2005

ASSAD: giving the interview to Maldivesoccer

Msoccer: What are your best moments in your football history?

Final in Bangladesh (3rs SAFF Championship) and Korea draw in 2006 World Cup Qualifying

Msoccer: Why do you think Valencia couldn't reach the second round of AFC Cup?

Well, we actually have gone a lot far. There were lack of concentration of the players because of that no one actually gave 100%. The game we wanted to win, we won. In the group, we could have beaten all of them. But our mentality was not that much high.

Msoccer: Do you think Maldives can perform well in this region?

Yeah, as I said before. The mentality should be there. If we aim to win, that is instead of having a defensive formation with 5 players playing in defense and then attacking is not a good option. We have a good midfield and a good striking force. We can utilize them.

Msoccer: Do you think Maldivian Football is making a good progress?

Yeah. But there was a dip in the past few years. The interschool tournaments were the only tournaments where new players come up. But the youth development programme that’s going on is a good program for the future. I really hope good players would come out of it.

Msoccer: What do you think are the obstacles faced to them?

the players would play around after 7-8 years in the Club Level. They are practicing in the turf. But when they come to the club level again they would practice in the same grounds that we do right now, which is not good for practicing. The players’ skill level also goes a lot down because of it.

Msoccer: Do you jump as high as mentioned by Imad Latheef?

Well, I still got the National Record for the Long jump. I guess the high jump record is not there now.

Msoccer: Which player is the most difficult to play against?

Thoriq of New Radiant.

Msoccer: There were rumours that you and Binma had a fight? Is it true?

Well, there was not much of a fight, we had a disagreement. Being a coach he should have changed some of the players when they performed badly. If I even performed badly he should change me. There wasn’t a fight. It was a disagreement.

Msoccer: You have played both in midfield and a last defender? Which position do you feel better to play?

I prefer in Midfield. But the change kiss brought is good. But I don’t think that I can play any more as a midfielder in Valencia. I think defense is better.

Msoccer: We heard that you got a chance to go to Hungary. What happened?

well, I did got a chance. Kiss brought me some faxes. But later I also did not know what happened?

Msoccer: If you get a chance to go abroad will u consider it?

yeah I would. But it depends on the offer as well

Msoccer: What are the things you consider when you sign a contract?

The players in the team whom I have to play with, and the coach plus management. But it also depends on the offer as well.

Msoccer: You got the captaincy in the National Team when there were more senior players than you. What happened?

Well, there is some relation with me and Captaincy. From the time I played in school even I am the captain whether it was the football team or a volley ball team

Msoccer: Who do you think is the best foreign player in Maldives?

Fidhadhi

Msoccer: If you were given a chance to select the best five, who would you choose?

Oppo, Dhagandey, Imran, Ammatey,Ali Umar

Msoccer: Who helped you in your career?

Heena was my first coach. And later a lot of people helped to make me as a good player

Msoccer: What do you expect from the supporters?

well, I think more discipline. They should accept defeat. That’s the main problem

Msoccer: What do you think of the referees?

Referees should develop the skill level of them. There is a dramatic change in the footballers levels. But the referees level doesn’t go up accordingly. There should be coaches for them as well to check their mistakes for a long period.
