We won't defence, we will fight for a win says Mohan

Male', MALDIVES - Maldives under 17 national team coach Mohamed (Mohan) said that his team will not stay back and defence in the upcoming AFC youth championship, rather than that they will play a more attacking game and do what ever possible to win the games.

"We are ready for a win. We will use attacking options and try to score goals and win. We would not lay back and defend." He said to Maldivesoccer tonight, before departing from Male' to Bangkok.

Eventhough he is so much committed to win the games, he expressed the lack of preparation compared to other times.

"We have a lot of difficulties. All the players are from schools and some of them are in morning session and others in the afternoon. So we had only time in the night to practice. The grounds are not good for good practices. And ramazan also clashed in and we had very few time to get ready for the tournament" said Mohan.

Before the team left tonight to Bangkok, the coaching staff has watched the ASEAN Games which both of the teams played. He noted some of the advantages the oppositions has.

"I went to see the teams play in the ASEAN Games and I think they have very huge players. Our players lack those physical strength. But if we consider as skill level, our team also have outstanding two to three players who can perform much better than the teams in our group"

About the results he was very anxious for wins in the group and progress to a good level in the tournament.

"We will try to play an attacking game and will try our level best to score and win the games"

Shibah, an defensive midfielder who will be playing in the first eleven said that the team is in good spirit and would try to beat the opposition.

"We watched the Indonesian video and we can beat them. I have a lot of hope that we can upset them" said the young defensive midfielder.

FAM's executive secretary, Mr Hussain and various other officials from FAM were presented when the players departed for Male' International Airport near number 1 Jetty.

In the team which consists of 16 players is headed by Mohamed (Mohan) and Naasir(Naabe) also with the FAM's technical director.

Today, FAM's chairman Abdul Shukoor met under 17 national team players with their parents and urged the players to be disciplined wherever they go and obey the officials. He also thanked the parents for their continous support.

Maldives will face Thailand and Myanmar in the group stage on 13th and 15th of this month. The tournament will held in Bangkok from 13 to 17.
