New Radiant wins on aggregate: the surprise continues...
21 September 2005

Male', MALDIVES - New Radiant makes history a while ago becoming the first Maldivian club to reach the semi final of AFC Cup after goalless draw against the mighty Al Hussein of Jordan. This result will take New Radiant through to the semi final on a 1-0 aggregate, as they won the home match by 1-0.

New Radiant played most of the second half without their key striker Ahmed Thoriq who was send off in the fifth minute of the second half.

New Radiant's this success will surely surprise the Asians may be just like the way Maldives surprised them after holding South Koreans to a goaless draw in Male' in world cup qualifying.

In tonight's game New Radiant played a defensive game and face some dangerous attacks of Al Hussein. But the blues had some wonderful attacks and created chances to break the deadlock.

According to Al Hussein's Gen. Secratary Mr. Fahmi, New Radiant is playing " not to lose the game."

" They are playing not to lose the game, very deffensive" he said to Maldivesoccer.com while watching his team struggling to beat the team from tiny islands of indian ocean. Later on he was failed to answer some calls of Maldivesoccer.com

This could be a shocking result for Al Hussein coach Osama Qassim, who promised to score many goals against New Radiant in Jordan.

" We will score many goals in Jordan. The weather and stadium is better there" he said after losing the first match in Male'.

New Radiant will face another Jordan club, Al Faisaly in the semi final. The first match will kick off in Male' next wednesday. Al Faisaly won both matches by a single goal in quarter finals against Singapore's club Tampines Rovers.
