MALDIVES - Dhivehi League Qualification for Zone 1-8 tournament
will begin on next Tuesday said FAM's Executive Secratary Hussein
Rasheed. The tournament which was scheduled to kick off last night
was cancelled in the last minute, because none of the selected referees
was shown up.
Hussein refused to accept that tournament was delayed because of
referees. He said there are some problems they need to fix before
the tournament and thats the reason behind delaying the tournament.
Sources close to Maldivesoccer in FAM said, the actual reason is
no referee was shown up last night. Some senior referees has confirmed
that they have asked FAM to guaranty them more security and before
that they will not blow any more whistle.
We have also got information that there will be a meeting with Minister
of Youth and Sports Mr. Ibrahim Maniku and senior referees at 13:30
local time.
One of the senior Referees said to Maldivesoccer that some referees
didn't get paid for some tournaments since 2002 and this is also
one of their complaints submitted to FAM. He also stated that they
didn't ask for anything new from FAM, all these are things they
have been asking for a long time. "FAM was keep on saying they
will do but they failed to do so" he said.
" The FAM thought we will referee for anything " this
disappointed senior referee said.
Regarding the referees' salary problem, FAM Executive Secretary
Hussein Rasheed didnt refuse and said he needs to check that.
Problem of Referee's
security rose after recently ended Vyansa and IFC's match, where
Vyansa's supporters and fans showed their anger and tried to attack
referee Ummeedh for allowing IFC's second goal, which Vyansa claimed
was off side. Ummedh was evacuated from the stadium with the help
of Police officers.
