10-1 IFC : A sack full of goals
03 October 2005
Male',
MALDIVES - In today’s Dhiraagu Dhivehi league match, Valencia scored
10 goals which is the highest score in the second round. It could
have been 11 goals i.e. a goal for each player on the field if dhangadey
did not miss his penalty which hit the post.
The first half score was 3 – 1 and from the chances created
by both teams, the spectators did not expect such a huge score line
in the game. The game got heated up after Referee Umeedh showed
a red card for IFC’s central defender Gayyoom. He was unhappy
with the decision and the players had to intervene to control his
temper.
The second half IFC lacked any tempo and Valencia started to pressurize
the vulnerable defense line of IFC. They scored 7 goals in this
half. Later Keeper Zariyandhu came in to play and he also couldn’t
stop the goals which hit the net so frequently. But he managed to
save some of the powerful shots by Valencia players.
The lights in the stadium were not lit up and the players, the
coach of IFC and the spectators were complaining for around 15 minutes.
It was very dark and the players had a lot of problems due to it.
After that, 4 lights from each stand were lit up. And there was
only 3 minutes left to play when it was lit up. The frustrated coach
of IFC was complaining to the referees and the match official about
the lighting and some of the misjudged refereeing in today’s
game.
In overall, Dhangadey got 4 goals under his belt and Ali Umar too
showed his fire power by scoring 3 wonderful goals. Habeeb, Anwar,
Faruhaadh managed to get on the scoresheet as well.
The only goal scored by IFC was by Wadheeu from a free kick near
the edge of the penalty area which went straight to the corner of
the goal.
In today’s post match news conference, IFC coach Nizam refused
to give any comments.
“I have no comments about today’s game. If I make any
comments it would not be so good. So it would be better if I don’t
make any comment” said the frustrated coach.
Meanwhile the assistant coach, who showed that he too can manage
the team after Chris left, was very happy about the score line.
“I am very happy with the score line. 10 – 1 is not
something I expected but we knew we can win. The players did a wonderful
job” said Binma
He also referred to the poor performance in the beginning of the
first half and said that the players improved later on.
“The players did not play well in the beginning of the first
half, but they gradually improved their tempo and ten goals is something
very big”
When asked about the title hope he said that anything can happen
in the tournament and he expects around 99-100% that they still
can manage to get the title
“Any thing can happen in the tournament. We can win the league
by sitting outside without playing like the last time. So anything
can happen.”
The man of the match was Ali Ashfaaq (Dhangadey)
