Male', MALDIVES - Valencia had their first win last night against Hiriyaa by 3-1. Ashraf, Habeeb and captain were on the scoresheet for Valencia while Muhaimin scored the only goal for Hiriyaa.
In the first period, none of the teams could perform well and not many chances were created.The match was very important to Valencia in order to defend the league which they had won in the last four years. First goal of the match was scored by Ashraf Luthfee, a defender. He scored from a good ball from Ashfaaq. The second goal was scored by the midfielder Habeeb, He made a perfect shot outside the penalty area which didn't gave any chance to keeper to save the ball. In the last period of the first half, Valencia played well and created lot of opportunities to score, but the half ended with advance 2 goals to Valencia.
Some changes were brought to the formation and some players were substituted for the second half. Valencia started this half with these changes and played better than the first half. But the first goal of this half came from Hiriyaa. This goal was scored by Muhaimin, Keeper tried to catch the ball which was crossed by a Hiriyaa player but the ball fell in front of Muhaimin and he gave no chance to the keeper. After this goal Valencia fasten their game and started building up good attacks. As a result in the 64 th minute Assad scored the third goal for them. There were some more attacks by Valencia. But there was not much threats for the goal.
In the news conference today, Chris was very disappointed with the forwards. The forwards are unable to score in the past three matches. "I am unhappy with Ali Ashfaaq. He has under performed again and we don't have any other choice to substitute him that's why I used him in the entire game."
"The forwards did not play that well. We had a good passing game but the finishing was very poor"
In reply to a question asked by maldivesoccer, Chris mentioned that Ashfaaq is physically unfit and they are trying to improve and his style of playing has to be adjusted to the game. So he is trying to work on it.
He also mentioned that it's not the way that Valencia wanted today, but he in happy that it is a win and that there are ups and downs and they are trying to work on it.
He noted that the foreign players are under their expectations. He added that he cannot use them if they are not as much to his expectations. "I can't use them simply saying that they are foreign players, if they cannot perform I should keep them in the bench. There is no other alternative".
Hiriyaa's coach noted that he is very happy with the game.
"We tried to keep the score low and we were successful in that. We also scored a goal. So overall I am very happy with the result" He said.
