Hurriyya : The newly crowned league champion
Hurriyya and New Radiant to represent Maldives in AFC Cup 2006
19 October 2005

Hurriyyaa team with League shield and other trophies: Hurriyya
is the third team to win Dhivehi League.

Male', MALDIVES - The island based Hurriyyaa sports club claimed Dhivehi League champion tonight while watching New Radiant and Valencia battling for a win, but at the end it was all squre. A 2-2 draw confirmed that neither Valencia nor New Radiant will reach the top of the league to replace Hurriyya.

In the first half, Valencia dominated the game and Ali Umar shot a free ball which was given Ashfaaq. Mukhthaar also was left unmarked at this time. Valencia pressurized the vunerable defense line without two of their best defenders – Naasir and Boikov

In the second half, New Radiant started to increase the tempo and changed the whole game. Oppo's two marvelous free kicks went to the top corner. The keepers had no chance of saving it. Mukhthaar scored the second goal for Valencia which was a terrible mistake by sadhun. The punch he made went inside the goal

In the post match conference, New Radiant's assistant coach refused that he commented that they will not take the game seriously.

"The management did not take the game seriously. They took it as a bonus if we win it. The players played for a win. We did not loose anything" Niyaz said.

When asked about Boikov's return, Niyaz said it is very probable that he would join the team in the national tournament.

"He will most probably join the team. But it is for the management to decide whether to bring him or not" he added.

Waheed (Binma) , the assistant coach of Valencia said that every one in the management, players should also take the responsibility of the loss.

"Everyone should take the responsibilities for the losses. A single person shouldn't be accused and we should not blame it. " Binma said.

Not winning either FA cup or Dhivehi League means Valencia will not be representing Maldives in next years AFC Cup, where as this years FA Cup champion New Radiant ( this year's AFC Cup semi finalist) and Dhivehi league champion Hurriyyaa will represent Maldives in AFC Cup 2006.

Binma also said that the players felt very upset because of the red card shown to Keeper Habeeb in the second half.

"The morale of the players went very down in the second half. That's why we could not control the ball in the second half" He said.

Dhivehi League awards were presented after the match.

Man of the match of last match : Ibrahim Fazeel (Oppo) (New Radiant)
