Niyaz saves New Radiant
Mauroof was unhappy about refereeing
30 July 2005

Male', MALDIVES - New Radiant had a narrow escape in tonight's game against their rival Victory. Both teams were heading towards the end of the game with 1-1 draw and then came a hero, Niyaz, from New Radiant's bench in the 86th minute and scored the winning goal in the 87th minute, which was his first touch of the game.

Both teams played a very equal game in the first half, where New Radiant and Victory both created open chances to break the deadlock.

New Radiant opened the scoring in the first minute of second half when a long distance throw from Nasir headed back by Ahmed Mohamed to his team mate Saeedh. He then controls and struck easily to the goal.

Victory leveled in the 75th minute from a beautifully struck long distance shot by Fareed and the celebration costs him the second yellow card together with a red, as he removed the shirt. Victory players and officials showed their disappointment, but referee confirmed that he was booked earlier.

During the news conference, Victory's coach mauroof said it's not fair to book a player who didn't remove the shirt fully while not booking a player who hands the ball purposely. "Referees are fair for some teams" he added.

New Radiant's coach Stoikov said he is happy to win the game and he knew this game won't be an easy one.

New Radiant's Ahmed Saeedh (Ammaty) selected as the man of the match.
