Stoikov to show AFC Cup magic in SAFF Championship

Male' Maldives - Bulgarian born coach Stoikov, who took New Radiant to the semi final of this years AFC Cup will shape Maldives in the upcoming SAFF Championship.

Football Association of Maldives has announced today that Former National team coach and New Radiant's current coach Stoikov will take the responsibility of a coach of national team again.

FAM informed this in a "news conference" held at FAM house today evening around 3.30 pm, but the news was all around the nation before FAM reveals such an inside decision.

FAM's executive secretary Hussien Rasheed who told maldivesoccer today that the plans were not finalised about bringing Stoikov, confirmed in the conference that Stoikov will come tomorrow.

"Stoikov is expected to come tomorrow morning.His contract with New Radiant expired and we felt he is the one for the national team. So he would stay with the national team for one year. Until the end of next season" He said.

On the other hand New Radiant Assistant coach Niyaz who worked with coach for two years said they are glad to release Stoikov to national team.

"FAM asked about releasing Stoikov as the national coach. We agreed to it as we, New Radiant felt it is our duty to serve the nation" Niyaz said.

Meanwhile FAM has appointed three assistant coaches to the coaching group.This is inorder to give more opportunity to the young emerging coaches.

"We have appointed three assistant coaches. They are Moosa Manik, Ihsaan and Ali Suzien. They were selected after a meeting with the organising committee. We selected these group of coaches because we want to give more opportunity to the emerging coaches. We gave maattey, Andharey and Iqbal also the same opportunity" said Hussien.

FAM has not fixed the post of Manager and Goal keeper trainer so far.

"Goal keeper trainer and manager's post is vacant yet. We are trying to fix people to those posts. Addo and Shahir, who filled those posts said that they cannot give enough time this time."

FAM also said that there was a nomination meeting among the 8 league clubs. Coaches and the officials of those teams nominated 32 players for the squad and these players would also be scanned by Stoikov when he returns tomorrow morning and he might deduct and include some more players as well.

Hussien said that the practice date is not yet fixed but they are trying to play practice matches with Thiland or in Malaysia.

"We are trying to play practice 2 games with one of the two nations. thailand or Malaysia. This would give more exposure to the team" He said.

This is not the first time FAM's news revealed before their so called "media conference".
