MALDIVES - FC Cicada came from ‘nowhere’ to enter the final of ongoing 3rd Division tournament when they beat Club Phoenix by 2-1 in today’s game. Phoenix was in need of a single point to confirm the final, but Cicada who lost their first encounter against Phoenix by 1-0, showed exit to Phoenix the same fashion they did to Muiveyo friends 3 days before.
Cicada broke the deadlock early in the game when Ahmed Mamdhoon scored in the 7th minute and increased the chance of going through to the final when Hussain Hameed scored in the 88th minute. The high tempered Phoenix scored from the spot in the extra period of the game.
Referee was the culprit of today’s game that leads to a more physical encounter when he was failed to make right decisions at the right time. Referee Ahmed Aslam never touched a card and he had no control over the match, even the players attack each other. Some fans showed their anger after the match and some players from Phoenix also joined them. FC Cicada kept on complaining the fourth official, but after all they didn’t get what they expected from the 'match controllers'.
Cicada is the most surprising team of this competition as they lost their first two matches and were left with no choice but to win the last two games in order to enter the final and quite fairly, properly and surprisingly they achieved their goal.
The last match of group stage will be played on tomorrow, knocked out Zefrol and Hithaadhoo Youth wing will clash in Group A match and FC Cicada will face Sea Land in the final on 6th January. Cicada and Sea Land will go through to the second division tournament as the finalists of 3rd division.
