Stoykov not to extend contract

Male, MALDIVES - National Team coach, Stoykov Ivanov is considering not to extend his contract following the disaster of 15 th Asian Games 2006. Under Stoikov's coaching, Maldives has suffered huge defeats in three major tournaments. However, there are some key matches that he has brought magic in to. The crushing of Afghanistan during the SAFF Championship and the classic win against Pakistan are the major success under his era. During the 15 th Asian Games, the match against Iran could be labeled as a success. In an exclusive interview given to maldivesoccer.com, coach Stoikov said that it is very unlikely that he would consider extending his contract any further
“It is very unlikely that I would extend the contract. There are so many things that I am upset. It is a huge loss for me during this year.”
“But I do need to talk with the Association and finalize everything”
Stoikov has said before the team left to Doha that he would like to extend his contract. Stoikov has signed the contract with FAM until the end of this year.
He also explained match to match details regarding the tournament loss
He said that he was very happy after the first match as the team played really well.
“The first match was a success to us. It was a good game and all the players played really well”
He also explained that the tempo in the match against India changed after the half time.
‘After the half time, Indians started to change it to a physical game and we were stumbled at that time”
‘Bhutia started to create space in our defense line and it was the main threat. He used all his experience during the game”
“ India never played against us like that. They always try to play a good passing game. But this time it was more of a physical game”
During the third match which was played against Hong Kong , he explained the early goal decided the game
‘We made only a single mistake and it cost us dearly. They were playing a very physical game. Oppo had to suffer a lot because of it”
Over all he explained that the physical superiority of the opponents made the difference and it was the main reason for the loss of the tournament
‘The opponents were really physical. We had skill but we were lacking in physical area”
He also did not believe that the goals that were scored against Maldives were because of Imran's mistakes
“It is not Imran's mistakes. Our players cannot face the deciding games. In Karachi also the same thing happened and this time also it was repeated. So we have to think to change our psychological nature towards the game”
‘Our players simply cannot handle the pressure. Some of them played lower than their expected minimum level of the game”

interesting comments from the coach stoikov. I agree with him on some points. Indeed, it was a good game againts the Asian powerhouse Iran. But againts indians, if they played a physical game, the coach should have developed contigency plans to respond to such physical game. Also the players should also take the responsibility for the failure. The boys are capable of doing better than that or maybe we are not as good as we think we are. Hope next year will be a more fruitful year for the maldivian national team. - Amen

i agree with the coach, before i read this article i also assumed similar points of which coach expressed. but we must change our game to phusical rather than apealing. we must see the local regional matches like we see the english premier league, by seeing english foot ball ofcourse we can have good skill but the point is will this asian are ready to see our skill, no they are deliberately killing us, so we must change our players athics and morals etc.. to this indian srilankan bangladesh style. if not let the skill remain on players. it's proved that we cannot play like this, remmember the golden jubillee match, srilankans not played well, our players played with highly skilled football but at end srilankan won by changing the game into physical. pls.pls. Make a Comitee of Senior Players Like LEBBE said. and make a proggramme for atleast for 10yrs. (i congratulate the Football team and to the coach as well. - ahmed athif
