MALDIVES - Two time champion and last year's AFC Cup semi finalist New Radiant will face second division champion Vyansa in the opening match of this year's Cup Winners Cup.
The most expensive tournament of Maldives football season is open only for the champions of the season ended. Champion of Zone 1-8, Hiriyaa, will not participate in the tournament, but all other champions will appear.
Defending champion and zone 9 champion Valencia, President's Cup winner Victory and Dhivehi League hero Hurriyya will battle for gold along with New Radiant and Vyansa.
Since only five teams participated, FAM arranged the tournament in a league style where each team will face the opponents once and the top two clubs will enter the final.
Without any doubt, Valencia is the most successful team in the tournament history. Winning the first three tournaments and last two sum up their winning tally to five whereas, New Radiant comes second with three and Victory with two are the only winners of this reputed tournament.
The very first edition of this tournament held on 1996 and continued till now without missing a single year and this is going to be the 11th. The kick off date of this year's tournament will be announced later.
