Thoriq (R) scored twice to give New Radiant a remarkable win

MALDIVES - New Radiant bagged their first points in the AFC Cup by beating Home United 5 -3. New Radiant after wasting numerous chances, managed to finish with bright colors. Thoriq who came back from Malaysia to this game on Saturday, scored two goals in the win.
But it was Home United who scored the first goal in the 4 th minute from a set play. A corner which was crossed on the center of the goal was headed by Rosman. It took 22 minutes for New Radiant to score their first goal. Ali Umar passed a Home United player and scored to the right corner of the goal.
In the 24 th minute, Lionel was shown second yellow card and was sent off for delaying the game. It was a very harsh decision taken by the referee.
Thoriq, was brought in to the game in the 31 st minute and New Radiant increased their striking force. New Radiant got so many chances in the half, but failed to score and the score remained 1-1 at the end of first half.
It was in the second half, the goals started to fly. Home United brought in one more strikers in attempt to win the match.
In the 50 th minute, Thoriq's shot was saved marvelously by the keeper for a corner and in the 57 th minute they got another chance to score the goal, but Ashfaaq's shot was deflected for a corner.
It was in the 66 th minute, Ashfaaq scored from a long range shot where the keeper had no chance to save. In the next minute, Thoriq, penetrated through the defense of Home United and shot the ball into the corner of the goal from a very narrow angel.
Home United came back from a very nice header by Indra. There were no defenders of New Radiant to clear the ball.
In the 83 rd minute, Egmar shot to the goal to level the game. New Radiant defenders were frozen and were complaining when Adam was injured. But Home United players took it as an advantage and scored.
New Radiant took the lead again in the 90 th minute from a header by Thoriq from a cross by Abdullah Mohamed.
And in the 91 st minute, Ashfaaq was brought down by the keeper and the referee pointed out to the spot. Nita shot to the corner of the goal, while the keeper moved to the wrong side.
Niyaz: Happy with the result, but not with the game
After the match, New Radiant assistant coach, Niyaz said that he was not happy with the game play though they won the game.
‘Although we won the game, I am not happy with the game play. We should have taken a bigger lead and the goals that were scored against us were terrible mistakes from the defense line”
Niyaz also mentioned that he also finds that the defense line is not organized as last year
‘In last year's AFC Cup we were the team which had the least goals scored against us. But now it is totally changed. We are practicing it.”
‘I don't have a remote control to organize and tell the players to jump when necessary. It would be gained by practices”
He also explained that New Radiant has lacked to organize the defense in set plays.
‘Most of the goals scored against us in this season was from set plays. Players are frozen and slow to react at the last minute”
Niyaz mentioned that they wanted to win and tried to increase the pressure on the defense line.
‘They started to put the all the defenders behind the ball and was difficult to score the goal. So I am happy with the result over all”
George: Don't want to criticize the referee
While Home United coach, George said that although he is unhappy with the referee's decision he don't want to complain. The red card was too harsh according to George.
“What can I say, it is a very harsh decision. But I don't want to comment”
George also agreed that his defense line was not organized and he is not happy with the result.
“The defense line was too unorganized and I am very disappointed with the result”
Regarding the game play he agreed that it was a good game.
“It was a good game, we wanted a win and that's why I introduced another striker. But we later thought a draw would also be enough.”
Finishing the news conference, George said on the prospect of beating New Radiant in the Home United grounds
“Ofcourse, Why not? We can beat them”
Thoriq: Delighted with the score
Thoriq who scored the two goals gave an interview right after the game.
“I am very happy with the two goals and the win. I have gifted the two goals for the spectators of New Radiant'
Although he scored two goals he was unhappy as he missed out a lot of chances.
“Even though I scored two goals, I missed a lot of good chances, which I should have scored”
