convert it.

Male, MALDIVES - A costly draw against New Radiant means Perlis left with no choice but end group stage holding second place of Group E. Sun Hei secured the top position to advance to the quarter final after beating Home United 2-0 in Singapore. Perlis, who were on top, before today's game will be out of the tournament because of the new rule applied by AFC, where the best second team of Group A to D and Group E & F will advance to the quarter final along with group winners. Group F second placed Selangor booked best runners up of Group E & F with 15 points to enter knock out phase.

New Radiant managed to finish the AFC Cup 2006 campaign with a point in their bag by drawing with Perlis in the home soil. Perlis who scored 6 goals in Malaysia could not bag any goal in here in Male'. Near the end of the match, it changed to a more physical game when Sri Lankan referee Arambakade Gedara’s ill decisions started to pour in to the game.

When both teams came out in the pitch, their most promising players were missing out from the game. Chepita who scored three goals were missing from the team and from New Radiant side, their promising players like Fazeel who was injured and Ali Umar who was suspended also did not take part in the game.

There were couple of chances for both the teams but the chances weren’t converted. Ashfaaq got the most open chance in the 65th minute. His tight angle shot was punched by keeper Amran.

In the post match news conference which was only attended by maldivesoccer and voice of maldives, Ibrahim , Perlis coach said that he is happy with the performance of the players

‘It was a very tight match. But we played a lot of competitive games and came here. We played matches 3 days before and came here within 2 days. So I am very happy with the result”

He also commented about the referee’s ill decisions.

“He is not up to the standard as you see it”

New Radiant’s coach Niyaz said that he is also happy with the performance

“We had a lot of injured players and we concentrated not to conceive any goal and to attack in counter attacks. We managed to do it and created some open chances”

Niyaz also said that New Radiant’s mission to be the best club will still continue

“We will try to win the league and we would work to be the best team”

Niyaz’s main concern is the injury to Nita who were lumping in the end of the second half

‘I don’t know his situation right now. We were forced to play with him as we did not have any substitutes. We have to wait what the doctor says about him”

In group F match, Selangor beat Hurriyya 1-0. Their first encounter played in Male' ended 3-1.
