New Radiant's dream almost over

Male', MALDIVES - New Radiant's hope of reaching the top 8 is almost blown away after tasting a 2-0 defeat against Home United of Singapore. Home United, who were beaten by New Radiant in Male, scored a goal in each half to bag the important three points and climb on to the second position of Group E and will remain the same till the next game if Sun Hei couldn't beat Perlis in the other match of this group.

New Radiant who started the game without their midfield key figures; Ibrahim Fazeel and Christian Nita, lacked the strength in the department and as a result failed to supply the balls to the attacking force controlled by Thoriq and Ashfaag.

Home United scored their first in the 21st minute from an effort by Indra, during this half Ashfaag and Tom created an open chance to level the game. Ashfaag's 36th minute shot was blocked by Home United's defenders and Thoriq shots from the rebounced ball, but went wide off the target.

Home United had a more physical game in the second period of the game and their captain Indra was injured while fouling on Ashfaag before Egmar increased the lead to 2-0 in the 60th minute.

Home United defenders had a difficult moment in the 75th minute when Thoriq's shot was cleared on the goal line. During this half, Home team's keeper had to stretch to parries away a dangerous free kick from Ashfaag.

Maldivian students in Singapore had a noticeable moment in the stadium, supporting New Radiant through out the game with the tune of BODU BERU.

New Radiant's chance of advancing to the second round depends very much on the score of other games of the group. Perlis, Home United and Sun Hei has to drop some important points else New Radiant's dream will be over. And mathematically, it's quite impossible to rotate things around like that in the group.
