MALDIVES - New Radiant took their revenge against Victory Sports Club by beating them 3-1. New Radiant started their game with more enthusiasm. Today New Radiant's midfield was on strong note and played very well. Nita and Rishfaan supplied a lot of balls which was a big threat for the Victory defense line which lacked concentration and was out of energy.
New Radiant took their lead in the 41 st minute when Naasir headed beautifully in to the net giving no chances to Keeper Imran. New Radiant got so many chances which could have extended their lead.
During the second half, New Radiant did not diminish their enthusiasm and continued to play with high spirit. Their second goal came in the 48 th minute from another header, this time by from Sobah. Nita's free kick was shot to the corner of the goal by the tall defender.
Fazeel who had numerous chances during the match marked his place on the scoring sheet in the 73 rd minute, from a well struck shot giving the high profiled Imran no chance.
Victory scored their only goal in the 75 th minute from a shot by Henriksen. Victory then tried to score by involving all their players in the attack but did not have much chance.
After the match, Assistant coach of New Radiant, Niyaz was delighted of the score line.
“It's a very good result for the club. We concentrated a lot on this match. As I told before, the management was giving high priority to this match. They asked me to keep the yellow carded players in the bench so that they could play in this one”
Niyaz disagreed that New Radiant's players were physically weak.
“Our players are not weak. They won all one to one man balls today. So it also illustrates that they are not weak”
He noted the performance of the key strikers Ashfaaq and Ali Umar.
“I should thank both of them. They came in to the match with huge injuries and had a splendid performance. Ashfaaq would be leaving day after tomorrow to treat for his injuries”
Maurooof, Coach of Victory Sports Club said that today is New Radiant's day and he congratulated New Radiant on the win.
“New Radiant played well in all the departments compared to Victory today. Their midfield was very good and I should congratulate the players, management and the supporters on behalf of Victory's management, players and supporters”
Mauroof also noted that in every game it would not be an easy task to come from behind and win the game.
“New Radiant is one of the best teams in this Nation. It would not be possible to come from behind in every match. But I am very happy as the players showed with full spirit and worked hard to score until the final whistle”
Mauroof noted that the goals scored by New Radiant were three uncharacteristic mistakes done by the defensive line which lacked any motivation and seems to be out of energy.
“It was three terrible mistakes by the defense line and it let us down. The concentration was not so good in the match and the strikers used those it as their advantage”
Victory would be meeting with Eagles on the 6 th of this month in the 3 rd place match.
New Radiant will face Valencia in the final on 16th of April. New Radiant won last year's tournament after beating them by 2-0 in the final.
