Male, MALDIVES - Victory sports club defended their president’s cup title and claimed as the champions for a record of 19th time after beating Valencia in tonight’s final match. Though Valencia dominated the possession and created more chances, they were left stranded when it came to penalty spot. Keeper Imran’s two superb save lead Victory to their second title in a row.

Valencia started the match with brilliant pace and in the 30th second, Akram took a superb shot which went inches wide from the post. Valencia looked more dangerous in their set plays and keeper Imran also was left stranded at some of those chances.

In the second half, Victory made some substitutions and tried to penetrate the defense line of Valencia.

Fareed took a superb cross in the 61st minute but Shiyam (Dhona) could not head it to the goal though he was left unmarked in the penalty area.

Four minutes later, Nafiu scored from a through pass by Ronaldo. But the assistant referee ruled it out for an offside.

Shinaz got two golden opportunities to score within two minutes. In the 74th minute, Shinaz’s superb shot from the edge of the six yard box was saved marvelously by keeper Imran. Shinaz’s next shot came a minute later, but it went over the cross bar.

Oittey also got a golden opportunity to score. But his shot also went wide.

During extra two half’s none of the teams were able to create open chances and the referee whistled to end the game and signaled for the penalty kicks.

Victory managed to score three of their penalties while Aakey only managed to score for Valencia. Anwar, Shaffaz and Ronaldo managed to net the ball. While, Oittey shot his penalty wide, Assad’s and Atheef’s penalty were saved by keeper Imran, who later was named as the best goal keeper of the tournament.

Victory defender Ashfan was named as the man of the match, Ibrahim Fazeel of New Radiant was handed the fair play player award, Imran defended his best keeper award and the youngster Akram Abdul Ghanee of Valencia was declared as the best player of the tournament. Valencia won the award for the fair play team.

Despite sloppy performance by the VICTORIANS,The National tournment/President's has been a tournment inherent to the brand 'VICTORY'.One of the Clinical eg of this was when they clinched the title in 2001 season(if I'm not wrong)without their 7 key players including the great fidhadhi and friday.
