New Radiant: going hero to zero?

Now what?: Disappointed New Radiant players and the Management after the match
"The way they warmed up and how they were on the field before the game, I sensed they are taking the game too easy...” - Nizam

Male', MALDIVES - The so called powerful New Radiant faced some "heavy" comments from their supporters when they failed to bag three points against Guraidhoo, a second divsion team. The defeat left New Radiant into a critical situation and their fans may have the fear of going Henveiru ground next year to cheer their beloved team.

New Radiant who started the warm ups quite lazily compared to all the other games were stunned by two early goals. Otegbola scored the two goals, which were given to him very cheaply by the defenders of New Radiant. Otegbola used the opportunity and extended the lead pressurising the FA Cup Champions.

Though New Radiant did dominate the ball possession, there wasn't any creativity and they couldn't penetrate the defence line of Guraidhoo. As a result, Niyaz, Coach of New Radiant had to bring on Ashfaaq who was rested for the game. But the substitution left the fans in a very questionable mode, as Abdullah who was playing marvellously in the midfield was taken off from the game.

In the second half, New Radiant tried to attack more vigorously and Guraidhoo was forced to defend, but they created a lot of counter attacks and the defenders of New Radiant were kept busy.

New Radiant came back and equalised from two goals by Valentine. There was a huge dispute with the players about the second goal, which they claimed was an offside goal.

However, the surprising goal, which stunned everyone in the stadium, was scored in the extra time by Shameem of Guraidhoo.

After the match, there was a huge roar by the fans of New Radiant calling resignation of their coach, Niyaz, and the dispute was solved when the chairman came in to the grounds around 20 minutes after the match.

In the post match news conference which was held around half an hour after the final whistle, Nizam was fully delighted of the score line.

“The whole media might speculate that this is impossible to achieve. But we proved that it is possible. We proved that it could be done. This is not just a simple win. It is a win against a team with 12 National team players, AFC Cup semi finalists and to get a win from them especially a 2nd division team is ecstatic. “

When asked about whether he believed about the win and whether it's deserved he replied that he believed that they could surprise from the first.

"The way they warmed up and how they were on the field before the game, I sensed they are taking the game too easy and the pressure they are in proved that we have an edge. So I made the players believe that they must take it as an advantage”

He also commented on the referee's decisions and said that it must be avoided.

“Everyone would have found his decisions were biased. Not only me, not only the news reporters, everyone in the stadium. These things should be stopped. Referee's don't have to be so social; they have to obey the referee's laws.”

New Radiant's coach who had to face a lot of criticism and was locked in the changing room because of the roars by the fans of New Radiant, said that the loss is disappointing and they are in deep trouble.

Niyaz had to wait a long time before he entered in to the stadium and had to lock the doors as the fans were throwing and shouting at the officials of New Radiant.

“It is very disappointing. The pressure is a lot on our side. The match started with a loss on our side. They scored two early goals. The supporters would obviously give us a lot of pressure”

“But this pressure by the fans for the players and the supporters would be a huge blow mentally for the players. So I would ask the fans to support the players in the situation and not to offend them. As we live in a very small place and we come across everyone so much in day to day life”

Niyaz also noted that today's loss is not because the lucky charm was missing, it was the pressure and said he takes the responsibility of the loss in today's game.

‘It's not because we didn't have luck. It is because of the pressure. And I will take the responsibility of today's loss”

supporters! what dos this means, when guridhoo score two gols agins them they should support not frustrate.......what ever...niya + supporters responsible. raaix
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What does Niya mean when he says he take full responsibility for the defeat.New Radient has been playing with no direction all season long since niya has taken over. They just send eleven players and hope that dhagandey, aliumar or oppo manage to score. He is a coach that sent and injured player twice (oppo) to play while nursing a serious injury. The reason that New has suffered is that an amatuer coach like niya has over trained and destroyed the team moral. If he cant find 18 players who can perform in a 8 match league, then he shouldnt be a manager. If there are no players who can perform at tis level on his bench maybe should look at guraidhoo or maaziya more closely. They dont have 5 or 8 national team players in their bench either.
It is very easy to say i take full responsibility or this is all political. There should be nothing political with a football team.If niyaz feel he is responsible for these defeats ,Which clearly he is, He should apologize to new radient and resign. Thank you. - Ahmed Alym

Why do you all always say "POWERFUL Newradient" and all? they are not obviously...powerful teams are Valencia and victory....cos no matter how bad their situations are...they make the best out of it with the players available - kuda katheebu
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

as a x player of new radient i feel shame my self. i urge niyaz to quit from coachin i no he doesnt have that quality to handle senior players cos i have experienced him when i was a player.
better niyaz to handlle youth teams.

and the last not the least plese, people in glass houses should not throw stones. - ismail

i agree with most of the comments made here. whe something this big goes wrong in the biggest club in the country, someone must resign. all newradiant fans are very passionate and deeply affected by team results recently. hoping to see new radiant change tactics in the upcoming matches. c'mon newradiant. u can do much better. the management has in the past listend to fans. do somethin. - afroman

I am really dissapointed for yesterday result.People believe or not ,the fact is still we need good foriegn coaches to raise the standard of our football.
Locals coaches only talk, but when comes to work they just get mad.....
I think now clubs have known the reality and whats the quality of "BIG GUNS".
local coaches are so busy with political parties(specially DRP) and have no time to prepare for their sessions and games.
Even FAM need to think about it and save our lovely game and our players. - mustho

To say the least, New Radiant lacks in professionalism. Look at Valencia, they have, infact a very weak side compared to the team they had in the last couple of 5 years or so. But with a professional coach in Eric at the helm, Valencia are performing well as the tournaments proceed. To New Stafss: By only winning the FA Cup and the lack of desire to win other cups, what is this? You should try to win as much tournaments as possible and should not try to focus solely on just a single cup namely "FA CUP." - Ali
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think niyaz is not suitable for the hot managerial seat of the best club with the best players in the Maldives. After the success of the AFC cup last season, the management is looking very corrupted and disorganize.
NewRadiant should be professional. - ayya

NIYAZ!!!!!!!!!!ISTHIUFA ISTHIUFA ISTHIUFAAAAAAAA   :@I BEG U - eyna

WOW!How nice 1 of asia top team loose with GURAIDHOO.Don't u feel anything abt your team MR.AZIM.Yes I agree with Red Devil, its time to me also to say ISTHIUFAA OF UN-PROFESSIONAL COACH OF NRSC. -   ZINAN
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey i am fan of newradiant now i would like to ask azim to sed Niyaz to Brazil for a loan.It will be good for u an the Nation - Dhandahelu
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey..really me too dissapointed about the performance of the team....There is no need to resign from his post..just need to change the thinking of the management..as a view of a player, if management saying to the players that they don't want anything other than FA Cup champion will effect their performance and atittude in the field..so, as my opinion: players are not giving their maximum effort to get good results once the managment said it..and finnally now strugglin to survive from it...- tom
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

we all call for resignation these days... maybe its time for me to call...

niyaz! kindly please resign, or else u will ruin the play of most of those players who are to lead the national team tomorrow.

once again... NIYAZ! ISTHIUFAA!!! - Red Devil
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If New Radiant is performing the way they are performing for the rest of the season, (especially with these coaching staffs) how on earth they are gona face the opponents in the AFC Cup 2007. They couldn't simply win against lowly ranked and fragile opponents like Maaziya and Guraidhoo.......NO EXCUSES. - Ali
