MALDIVES - Victory Sports Club wins the 11 th Cup Winners Cup after beating last years AFC Cup Semi finalist New Radiant Sports Club by 5-4. Both teams struggled to score a goal at the beginning of the game. After the arrival of Ali Ashfaaq the game was changed. As a result of that referee awarded a penalty to New Radiant in the 36 th minute of the game for the foul committed by Anil when Ashfaaq passed him inside the penalty area.
The first goal of the match was scored by Ibrahim Fazeel from the penalty spot. First period of the game ended with 1-0 lead to New Radiant.
At the beginning of the second half New Radiant doubled there score margin. Ashfaaq scored from a perfect header by a cross from Fazeel.
Victory's first goal came in the 57 th minute of the game from the Denmark international, Henrikson. He used his physical strength and speed in scoring this goal from a perfect goal kick from goalkeeper Imran.
Victory leveled the game in the dying minutes of the second half with a powerful shot outside the penalty area from Nafiu Mohamed in the 71 st minute of the game.
For the third time New Radiant got the lead in the extra time from a foul by the keeper Imran to Ashfaaq. Without a mistake Ashfaaq scored the third goal of them from the spot.
Victory leveled the game in the dying minutes of the extra time from a perfect shot from the youngster Assad.
In the penalty shoot out man of the match Imran saved the first four spot kicks of new Radiant from Ashfaaq, Fazeel, Ali Umar and Valentine. Adam Shareef had scored the only goal from the spot for the mighty blues. While Assam saved two spot kicks from Victory from Umair and Fareedh. And the goals from Henriksson and Shaffaz gave them the smile.
In the post news conference Victory's coach Mauroof Ahmed told that it was a total winning for them.
“The performance from the players, the support from the crowd and the game plane, it was a total winning”
Maattey also added that Imran was the best goalkeeper in this country at the moment.
“There is no doubt. He is the best goalkeeper in the country at the moment”
On the other hand New Radiant's coach Niyaz said that the game turned as lack of concentration.
“After the lead the players concentration goes very low and there motivation was not good. The finished the match so early”
When asked about the refereeing both of them told that on an average the performance from the referee is good.
“There might be some wrong decisions but on average the performance was good”
Player of the tournament award goes to Ali Umar.
