Victory: Cup winners cup defending champions |

Male, MALDIVES - Football Association of Maldives’s executive committee has decided not to give chance for VB to participate in the Cup Winner’s Cup tournament. Cup winner’s Cup is the most precious and high valued tournament in Maldives. The winner gets 100,000 MRF for the tournament.
VB has submitted a letter requesting FAM to allow them to participate in the tournament but the executive committee did not agree on it. This decision would mean that only three teams would be applicable to participate in the tournament. This would be the first time that three clubs participate.
The teams who would be competing for the tournament are New Radiant, Victory and Valencia. Valencia has been appointed to participate as the runner up of President’s Cup.
This decision would hinder the support and the challengive nature of the tournament. As VB has the most highly rated players of Maldives at the moment. So this would bring a lot of negative impact for the Maldivian football.

Its good that the executive committee had made that all important decision. Whether VB does have highly rated players it does not mean that it's an automatic criteria for qualifiaction for the Cup Winners Cup, when the rules clearly states to the contrary.

probably FA made a right decision, not allowing VB(Vee Born) to participate the cup. eventhough they have HILGHLY oveRATED players. but they should allow one more team to participate.

superterry or seceretary, why shud FAM allow one more team to participate in the tournment?? and why not VB as a fourth team.so is it okey for you to give chances to mazia and guridhoo as a fourth team ? be more fair in what you say?

Yeah.. Good Decision by FAM.. High rated players does not mean that they can get automatic qualification for the cup.

FAM’s decision to go by the rules and not to allow VB sports to participate in Cup Winner Cup is a well-lauded decision, but the question is, will the supporter of VB or the many fans of so many good players in VB, will reconcile to the fact there won’t be any necessity for them to go to stadium during the Cup Winners Cup
There was a time when New Radiant, a team that enjoys largest fan base, had to face the same dilemma. But did New Radiant have to suffer the same fate as VB? No, they played; rule was on the paper, never practiced as stringently as with VB. People would argue when it comes to New Radiant they are laced with favoritism, that FAM is biased towards other teams, more so, if the team hails from another island.
Well, what VB faced with could be big dilemma, but when the rule of law is applied those which don’t meet the criteria for Cup Winners Cup should be out of contention. Or could there be something deeper than that? Whatever it is, it would hurt FAM and supporter equally, more profoundly local football. Frustrated supporters will not come to clap rival teams, so it would have a telling effect on gate money. With the level of competition and excitement reduced passionate fans of famous footballers cannot care to see a spectacle when VB Sports are mere spectators in CUP Winners Cup Yet the question is will FAM remain stuck to the guns, won’t they give in the last moment? Who knows, any thing could happen in Maldivian football?
