Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives national team striker Mukhuthar Naseer, who has retired from national team tonight, said that he has achieved everything in football during his career.
Speaking to maldivesoccer.com Mukhuthar said that he came to Male’ to play football with a great ambition and that is to wear national jersey.
“When I came to Male’ to play football my ambition was to play for the national team and to be a successful player in the team and happily I did it and yes I can say now that I had achieved everything in football.”
Mukhuthar also thanked Football Association of Maldives (FAM) for giving him such an opportunity to retire.
“I would like to thank FAM management and especially Ali Suzain for giving me this opportunity to retire from the national team in front of thousands of supporters in the National Stadium.”
Mukhuthar presented his match jersey which was used against India during the 2008 SAFF Championship final to FAM in tonight’s function.
“Actually I wanted to present my shoes which I used to score the goal against India. Unfortunately that boot was not mine and used it after borrowing from Shamveel but he also couldn’t find it. And I decided to present the jersey which was used during the first half against India. And that was the only thing I have from that match.”
“I have confidence with the current national team players and there are good players who can replace them.”
He also added that he has a two year contract with New Radiant and but this might be his last year in football.
Mukhuthar scored the only goal against India during the final match of 2008 SAFF Championship when Maldives won the tournament.
