Kathmandu, NEPAL – Afghanistan has won the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship for the first time after beating the regional giants, India by 2-0 tonight. Afhganistan’s Sanjar Ahmadi and Musthafa Hadid scored the historic two goals.
Afghanistan broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when Mustafa Hadid took a nice cross from the right flank and Belal made no mistake to deliver the ball to Mustafa Azadzoy and he nicely sends the ball to goal inside the six-yard box.
Thirteen minutes later India’s Robin made a good shot just out side the box but went wide.
In the 38th minute Afghan Keeper Fagiryar cleared a goal scoring opportunity for India. He punched away Izumi's shot outside the box but from the rebounded ball India player made another shot but the Afghan defenders cleared it.
Six minutes after the break, Indian striker Je Je penetrated the Afghan defense line and crossed a good ball into the box but there were no Indian players inside the box to control it.
In the 60th minute India introduced their captain Sunil Chhetri to strengthen their striking force. And a minute later he made a good shot but keeper saved it.
In the 62nd minute Afghanistan’s Sanjar Ahmadi doubled the lead for the Afghans. Belal made the first attempt but keeper blocked it and Sanjar scored from the rebounded ball.
Afghan won the match by 2-0 tonight but India won the 2011 SAFF Championship after beating Afghanistan by 4-0 and it is believed to be a good revenge for that.
Afghanistan’s goalkeeper Mansur Fagiryar won the player of the tournament award while, Maldives captain Ali Asfhaq won the golden boot award after scoring 10 goals in this tournament.
