Ashfaq suffered a hamstring injury yesterday in the Malaysian Super League match against Perak FA.

Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - Maldives national team captain and PDRM FA’s hit man, Ali Ashfaq (Dhagandey) has suffered a hamstring injury in PDRM’s 3-1 win against Perak FA on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to maldivesoccer.com, Ashfaq confirmed that he sustained a hamstring injury during last night at Ipoh and he’s unsure about the duration of the injury yet.

“It’s a hamstring injury. The result of the scan will decide when I can go back to the pitch.”

Maldives national team physician Ahmed Shakeeb said that normally it would take 21 days to recover a hamstring injury.

“Normally it would take 21 days to recover hamstring injury but I don’t know what has happened to Ashfaq.”

It’s believed that Ashfaq is also a doubt for PDRM FA’s FA Cup round of 16 match against Sime Darby on 17th March 2015.

Maldives is set to play an international friendly match against Tajikistan on 26th March 2015 at National Stadium.

Maldivesoccer.com wishes Captain Ali Ashfaq a speedy recovery…

Having watched Ashfaq’s performance in the last two matches in Malaysia Super League I have to say his performance level has dropped significantly. His touch and ball control is not at its best, he lose possession so easily. Also current PDRM is not playing to his strength; his teammates don’t seem to be too keen to find him when he runs to good spaces. They play too many long balls to their new number 10, the towering fellow who is now the top scorer with 5 goals. As for his injury I wish him speedy recovery and hope that he follow doctor’s advice very carefully. So often what happen with our players is so eager to play in the next match they ignore doctor’s advice and join practice earlier than the mandatory rest period. They play through despite the mild pain hoping to shake off it, the end result is: old injury gets aggravated, they lose form and it eventually becomes a prolong problem. Hope Ashfaq respects docs advice and not rush through to play in the friendly. This is important year for national football team and we need a fully fit Ashfaq at his best, so better get full recovery and take the proper rest required.
