Male’, MALDIVES – New Radiant Sports Club’s and national team striker Ali Ashfaq will not think about scoring goals for himself, but wants his team to win in the president’s cup final played tomorrow. New Radiant will face Victory in the finals.

Both Mohammed Umair and Ali Ashfaaq are leveled in the number of goals this season. Both players have scored 23 goals this season. Speaking to maldivesoccer.com after the practice session Ashfaq said that he wants to think about his team.

“I don’t want to think about the number of goals I have scored or the goal scoring chart. All I want is for our team to win and we are focused to do that job.”

"It is also a special match to me because we would be celebrating my younger boy's birthday. Vishaal will be one year old tomorrow"

Speaking about Umair, Ashfaaq said that he is a top player.

“In my opinion, Umair is the number one player this season. He has the potential to be a great football player if he looks after himself. He has proved that he is one of the best in Maldives"

Ashfaq played a crucial role for New Radiant this year as they managed to win Dhiraagu Dhivehi League. New Radiant scored a total of 48 goals and Ashfaq scored 22 out of it.

The final match between New Radiant and Victory will kick off at 1550hrs tomorrow.

That’s the spirit man, keep it going. But it is important for you to remember Suzain is a master at mind games. He will most definitely have a particular player to man-mark you, because he said so, “if Ashfaaq is stopped New Radiant is stopped”. His main objective will be to deprive you of opportunities by both legal and illegal means. Overly body-checks and tackle, verbal exchanges will be used to unsettle you, to get on your nerve so you will lose your cool and make one silly mistake and get a red-card. It had happened in one final. So make a note of it. Good luck.
