Ayala to play in exhibition match

Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives has said that world football legend and former Argentinian captain Roberto Fabian Ayala will be playing for the champions team as a guest player in the upcoming exhibition match on 29th August.

“I thank FIFA president Mr. Gianni Infantino, AFC and Qatar Football Federation for their continuous support in FAM’s effort to revive Dhivehi Football as well as the development of the game in Maldives.” Said FAM President Ahmed Thariq.

Roberto Ayala made 115 senior appearances for Argentina from 19994-2007 and he also won the gold medal with Argentina in 2005 Athens Olympic Games.

He has played for Argentina’s River Plate, Napoli and Milan from Italy and Spain’s Villareal, Valencia and Zaragoza. He scored 15 club levels goals from 499 appearances and 7 goals for Argentina in his 115 games for the country.

No one can complain FAM’s tireless work behind the scene to give a stupendous feel to the exhibition match. But why a defender by trade, all of 43, long after retired from international football? Why not a flair player, someone who play in the midfield or further forward?
