Male’, MALDIVES – BG Sports has appointed Italian born Fabio Lopez as their new coach within hours after the sacking of Mohamed Shazly. Lopez (40) will arrive to Maldives tonight to join the club and would participate in the practice tomorrow.

BG Sports president Ali Muradh (Ayya) said to maldivesoccer.com tonight that they were looking for a foreign coach even at the beginning of the season.

“We are having a good squad and we tried to bring a foreign coach who can bring success to the club.”

“We know that Lopez would bring success for the club as he is a very experienced coach, who has worked with countries like Italy, Malaysia, Indonesia and Lithuania.”

When asked about the sacking of Shazly, Ayya said they are pleased with the services given to the club by Shazly.

“We are very happy what Shazly has done for the club. He has done a good work with the club to promote the club to the top flight in the country. And within the past few months we knew how capable he was and how he has dealt with the players.”

“Even later if we preferred for a local coach then it will be Shazly.” Ayya said.

According to the club it is believed that Lopez would be the highest paid coach ever in the Maldives.

Lopez who has worked as the scout for Atlanta Calcio between 2003-2005 and in between 2005-2007 he has worked as the scout for Fiorentina Calcio.

In 2008-2009 he has worked as the head coach of FK Banga (1st division) in Lithuania. Under his reign they lost just 6 games out of 27 games and conceded only 15 goals. And also they reached the quarter final of the Lithuanian Cup.

In 2009 he has worked as the head coach of FC Siauliai (1st Division) in Lithuania and managed to win 9 games in a row from 15 games.

In 2011 Lopez worked as the technical director of Sabah FA of Malaysia who are competing in the Malaysian super league. And later in the same year he has moved to PSMS Medan in Indonesia.

so do u guys think by bringing him will win the league ? they will not even be there next season .oppo is out of form too slow , sina he isnt even fit to play second division , oyittey he was charismatic at one time but now its time to hang his boots . mazey another slow guy and the guy playing as a central striker in way below par . if u want to succeed follow the footsteps of teams like eagles which brings out young talents .

It looks like certain players in BG Sports club are bigger than the coach. At least that is the news on top of everybody’s lips. Just hours after the speculated feud between Oppo and coach Shazly, it is not Oppo but the person responsible for their elevation from second division to first division who has been sacked. And his replacement is already on the way, from Italy. BG Sports was not doing bad in the league, if fact they are only just three matches into the tournament and that is not an enough period to have good verdict on coach’s performance, yet he seem to have paid the bigger price for tinkering with the perceived ‘untouchable’ of the club. Unbelievable and ruthless to say the least!!???

The important thing is not to get a highest paid coach in the country or the region...need to see achivements...or how sucess with the club...and if u bring hiddink also...if players work only u cud reach to sucess....

I'm argentinian and know this trainer well through my time in Italy, this is a 100% profesional coach with international experience, great tactical skills and know perfectly how to manage a group of players and get them to a higher technical and mental level! He is a great person, wish him and his club all the best!
