2013 was watershed moment in the history of Victory SC. They had just survived being relegated into 2nd division. Some of most the decorated former players came on the pitch with tears of joy. They wanted to hug the players who had saved the blushes. There was introspection, vision and mission laid bare, promises and pledges made on after what might have been the darkest moment in the history of dhivehi football’s most successful club. They all agreed unanimously Victory should not suffer this kind of ignominy, that this was too special a club to be dragged in the mud of relegation. Players like Zariyyand came on TV to pledge their commitment to the cause of their beloved team. Two seasons has passed since then and I’m kind of wondering whether what was shed in June 2013 were tears of joy or tears of guilt or just crocodile tears for the cameras. Because today they survived yet another relegation scare, just on the final day of the league. And they are still like a team drawn more to relegation than enjoying time at the other end of table.
