Kathmandu, NEPAL – Maldives skipper Ali Ashfaq has urged the supporters to be with them as the 12th player of the team during the SAFF Championship. Speaking to the press just after the last training session ahead of Sri Lanka match the man of steel, Ashfaq said that they came here to win the tournament.
“We came here to win the tournament and be with us as the 12th player. Insha Allah we will win the tournament this time, so be with us.”
He also highlighted about the semi final match against Sri Lanka in 2009 SAFF Championship, which Maldives won by a healthy 5-1 margin.
“We won the semi final of 2009 SAFF Championship against Sri Lanka by 5-1 and it will help us to improve our confidence and I believe that we can get a good result in tomorrow’s game based on our players performance and their motivation.”
Ashfaq also reiterated that this tournament is totally different in many ways when compared to the other tournaments that Maldives participated.
“This is completely a different tournament and this is one of the best tournament ever that we prepared and the most different thing in this tournament is our game plan.”
“We will not under estimate our opponents and we will try to win a match by match. So now we have to win the match against Sri Lanka and we will not take it easily.”
Maldives will play against Sri Lanka today at 1745 hours.
