Male', MALDIVES - New Radiant Sports Club has assured the club will extend whatever support is required from FIFA and calls Normalisation Committee of Football Association of Maldives (FAM) to conduct an election as soon as possible and let an Executive Committee elected by the clubs to run FAM.

FIFA has rejected the recent FAM statute approved by the member clubs of FAM stating the statute conflicts with FIFA’s Reform Agenda and extended the period of Normalisation Committee until 31st May 2016 to review and approve FAM statute and conduct an election. FIFA has also warned FAM that failure to do so will face the association a suspension from FIFA.

New Radiant, in a press release, yesterday highlighted that FAM has never shared the issues raised by FIFA with member clubs and being one of the biggest clubs in the Maldives New Radiant is willing to extend their support in finalising a statute that is in line with FIFA Reform Agenda.

“It is the time FAM Normalisation Committee keeps aside their personal agenda and conduct an election as soon as possible let the Association be run by an ExCo elected by the clubs”

New Radiant also stated that since FIFA appointed a Normalisation Committee in December 14, 2014, Maldivian football has shown a worrying decline and blames Normalisation Committee for country’s current status in regional football.

Maldives has recently finished their World Cup 2018 Qualifying games with a hard fought win against Bhutan. Maldives, under current coach Rickie Herbert, also had an awful experience in the SAFF Championship, Bangbandhu Gold Cup and SA Games, where Maldives lost the semi-finals in the last two tournaments against Nepal.
