Mika Lonstromm, New Radiant has sacked him yesterday from his post

Male', MALDIVES - New Radiant Sports Club has sacked their Finland coach Mika Lonstromm after a series of poor results. The club is yet to make an official comment on the matter but Mika's profile has already been taken from club website www.newradiantsc.com.

A reliable source has confirmed that the club has also terminated the contract of Assistant coach Ismail Anil as well.

Mika was named as the best coach of 2014 after guiding the club to Dhivehi League and President's Cup success. But a source close to the club said the club expressed their disappointment over the performance of the club in the People's Cup in January where New Radiant lost their opening two games and finished on bottom of the four team tournament.

Mika was given the last chance in the AFC Cup opening game against Persib Bandung on February 25th but New Radiant suffered another huge loss of 4-1 that lead to the club making the decision to sack the coaching staff.

New Radiant is yet to appoint a replacement but the club has resumed trainings under academy coach and former player Sobah.

New Radiant's next game in the AFC Cup will be against Lao Toyota FC on 11th March in Male' and it is believed the club will appoint a new head coach in time for the game.

Quite frankly, this has been coming. New Radiant were rather poor under his leadership even last season. Their once free-flowing football has been replaced with a horrible mess of confusion. The players look utterly confused on the pitch and this has dried up their goals. There is little tactical coherence or much of a game plan to their play. Even during training sessions, all they did was to play 11 vs 11 matches. It's going to take a miracle for them to win the title this season.

Ideally he should have been sacked just after the miserable results in People’s Cup before heading to AFC Cup. Now it will be difficult for the new coach coming in to integrate his method of play and tactics in time for another AFC Cup match. Looks like this is going to be yet another wasted opportunity in AFC Cup. Management need to be more proactive in taking these decisions before it’s not too late.
