New Radiant lost the match against Churchill Brothers tonight by 3-0.

Goa, INDIA - Indian Champions Churchill Brothers eased past New Radiant by 3-0 in the Group E match of the AFC Cup today.

Costa Rican striker Cristian Lagos opened the scoring in the 31st minute after Churchill missed several early chances at the Nehru Stadium.

Trinidad and Tobago forward Anthony Wolfe added a second goal early in the second half. Lagos, who was playing in the starting 11 as prolific striker Balwat Singh was ruled out due to an injury, scored the 3rd goal for Churchill in the 75th minute.

Chruchill dominated the match and created several chances. New Radiant, without their key striker Mohamed Umair and Ghanaian defender Jonathan Quartey, created few chances.

“We experienced fatigue as we have done a lot of travelling and we were also missing our Ghanaian defender (Jonathan Quartey),” said New Radiant caretaker coach Ismail Anil. “Our play improved slightly in the second half but it was too late.”

Churchill Brothers coach Mariano Dias was delighted with his teams first points in the tournament.“

It was important to get this victory and it will surely give us confidence both for the remaining AFC Cup matches and to improve our position in the domestic league,” said Churchill Brothers head coach Mariano Dias.

It was a very poor game by New Radiant. Players didnt seem motivated enough and unlike the first game and games New played last year, most of the players looked very tired and lacked the fighting spirit. Same goes to Maziya and i am starting to wonder if these players would get fit enough to win the Challenge Cup. Fortunately Dhagey is in good form and insha allah he will get even better by start of Challenge Cup, but i am very concerned about the rest of the team. If travelling affected them, think about this for the next two away games. I know that an age old and cheap trick was played by the Indian Team, by not arranging the Visa of the foreign player. (Which according to AFC the home team has to arrange). In this sense New Radiant is lucky that it didnt have more foreign players on the team as upto 4 players may be registered and all of them had the chance of missing todays game. But putting aside all this, the Maldivians in the team just didnt perform today. May be a bad day or too much pressure to not get beaten by an Indian Team. I remember the days when Maldives national and club teams played under lots of pressure when ever they played Sri Lanka or its Club teams. Those days are gone now, but now i feel the curent team has the same pressure when ever they play India or an Indian Club team. Need to get over this. Any ways hope New Radiant employs a foreign coach soon and work on the tactics and fitness of these players. National Team Coach needs to factor all this into his training plans..but...no sign of him yet.

Disappointed with the results and in the next match, NRC neds to play for a win, doesn't matter who starts in the first eleven. With good preparation, I believe NRS can get a good result.
