Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives has postponed the Ooredoo Dhivehi Premier League (DPL) matches after the fifth week when the Ministry of Youth and Sports decided to give the stadium for the activities to be held on the occasion of the 50th independence to the Maldives.

This is the second time that the governing body of Maldives football decided to postpone the matches of the league. At first they postponed the league matches on 7th May for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Hong Kong and Qatar.

During this break Maldives national team will participate in the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) to be held in Reunion on 31st July.

This would be a very big problem... specially for the small teams... this is a very unprofessional thing from fam n youth ministry .....

So, the only time FAM managed to actually draw up a properly planned footballing season, they are forced to do this. Just proves that, unfortunately, no one cares about the well-being of domestic football. These so-called "fans" who turn up in large groups to support the national team are also shamelessly silent on this matter.

Lack of professional football teams!!! That's the main problem. Look the stadium is a government property. So they will use it whenever they want. These things would stop when clubs have their own stadiums. The newly proposed home-away tournament is the solution to these issues (I guess)
