Male’, MALDIVES – The normalisation committee formed by FIFA has decided to rebrand Dhivehi League as Dhivehi Premier League.
Chairman of normalisation committee Mohamed Shaveed said in a press conference held at FAM today that with this new change the club competing in the league would get huge benefits.
“The teams in the league would get huge benefits and we are working to give one million Maldivian Ruffiyyaa as cash price for the champion team. And the bottom team would also get MVR 100k, which is the cash price for the champion team now.”
He also reiterated that these clubs would have to agree with the terms and which includes that each club must to be registered to represent an particular area.
“The clubs must represent an area where the club belongs and the FA would assist them to increase their fan base within that area.”
Shaveed also said that the main sponsor of the league would be a well-known company from Qatar such as Ooredoo, Qatar Foundation or Qatar Airways.
FAM have decided to play two rounds in the league from next year instead of three rounds and the bottom team will relegate to the second division automatically and the champion of the second division will qualify for the league while runner-up of second division and second bottom team of the premier league will play a play-off match to secure a spot on top league.
