Male’, MALDIVES – Club Eagles managed to get a point against Maziya Sports and Recreation Club today after a 1-1 draw in the Ooredoo Dhivehi Premier League.

Maziya’s captain Asadhulla Abdulla opened the scoring in the 14th minute from a stunning shot inside the box from a well timing back heel pass from Umair.

In the 40th minute Maziya’s defender Zhivko was injured and Said replaced him and he was taken to the hospital immediately for further tests.

In the last minute before the break Eagles’s captain Ismail Easa levels the game from a shot inside the box.

Ten minutes after the break Maziya was very unlucky to take the lead when Umair’s free kick went inches away from the post.

Six minutes later, Abu Desmond Mansaray missed a golden opportunity to change the score. He penetrated the defense line of Maziya and shot it into the goal while keeper Imran was not in the proper position but Maziya player cleared it before crossing the line.

Victory Sports Club will play against BG Sports in the league on 4th May at 1600 hours.

A timely reality check for Maziya when they were thinking ' oh, we are unbeatable and too strong for any team'.

Sort of expected result given Maziya's preoccupation with AFC cup match next week. Hope Zhivko's OK.

maziya, may be too overconfident after defeating new radinat in the season opening match, took this match too lightly and suffered this disappointing result.

A draw is OK for Maziya but the important match is approaching, which is a must win, which by the way is a very real prospect with hardwork by all concerned, the players, the supporters and the management. I wonder what creative action Maziya's management is taking in order to attract more fans to the big match. An idea I;d like to suggest is for the team's management to arrange visits on Sunday/Monday to secondary and Al-level schools with discount/free match tickets and small supporters flags to distribute. The school fans are a good way to encourage and entice youth to attending the match. It's also a great way to start building a fan and talent base. If this can be arranged you could even include top players such as Asako, Pablo and Imma (Imran) to accompany the team reps to do a talk to school population. Just a suggestion but I think this could achieve a surprisingly good result!
