FAM appoints Drago Mamic

Drago Mamic of Croatio, the new head coach of Maldives.

Male’, MALDIVES – A reliable source has confirmed to maldivesoccer.com that Serbian born Croatian, Drago Mamic has been appointed as the new head coach of Maldives today.

Drago Mamic (60) has previously worked with difference teams. He has worked with several youth teams in Croatia and from 1999 – 2000 he has worked with Sichuan Quanxing from China. From 2000-2003 he has worked as an assistant coach of Dalian Shide, China. Drago Mamic has also worked as an assistant of Chinese side Guangzhou Rizhiquan from 2003-2005 and from 2005-2006 he has worked as a caretaker coach of the team.

In 2007 he has joined with Malaysia’s Sabah FA as the head coach of the team. And from 2009-2010 he was worked as the head coach of Myanmar and in 2011 he joined with India’s Churchill Brothers. From 2011-2012 he has worked as a head coach of Indonesia’s Persib Bandung.

When maldivesoccer.com contacted FAM’s secretary general, Hussain Shahid regarding the matter he said that they would release a press about the coach.

“We will send a press release within few minutes about the coach.”

It is believed that Drago Mamic will arrive to Maldives next week.

don't know but I DO care! MS, please provide some achievements if any and ask FA, the factor behind the appointment. Is it based on merit, affordability or something else? It'd be interesting to find out what the coach's first and long-term plans are.

Clearly not FAM's first choice. Or second choice...or third. They went to McMenemy, Stoichkov and Booth. In the end their haggling and stalling meant that those 3 gentlemen ran out of patience and FAM, under increasing pressure from the fans decided to go with the remaining option. Nevertheless, I would like to say welcome aboard to Mr. Mamic. We fans will be following your work with the national team closely. Hope to see a very fruitful tenure from your part.
