Male', MALDIVES - Football Association of Maldives (FAM) 6th annual congress has been abandoned today after majority of clubs refused to continue with the agenda.
Club Eagles submitted a letter with the backing of 18 member clubs to include a no confidence motion of FAM president and vice president in the agenda. However the request was denied by the exco.
FAM president Ilham Ahmed proposed to the clubs to take a vote to see if the clubs wants to change the agenda and continue with proposed changes. But neither club voted in favour of changing while only 6 clubs voted to continue with the agenda. Hence, FAM president Ilham announced the congress is abandoned.
The congress was seen FAM president, Eagles chairman Mohamed Rasheed and New Radiant chairman Ali Waheed dominating the floor.
New Radiant chairman Ali Waheed repeatedly highlighted the importance of continuing the congress and the negative impact Maldives football may have due to the outcome of the congress. He also urged to change the statute of FAM to make sure we minimize conflicts in the future.
FAM has announced the organization are trying to have the congress again in 24 hours but said will inform the clubs about exact date.
