Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives has introduced club license system from this year and if any club failed to get the license from FAM they would not be able to participate in any football tournament.

Speaking at a press conference held at FAM, Chairman of the normalization committee, Mohamed Shaweed said that the reason for this is to secure the players and the clubs.

“The main purpose of this system is to secure the clubs and the players. We all know that there are many financial issues and other things within the club. So if any club failed to get this license they will not be able to participate in the tournaments.”

“There will be three categories and to get the license the clubs must clear all the debts. There should not be an outstanding to FAM, FIFA or AFC.”

Technical Director of FAM, Mohamed Shiyaz said that it is a system that the AFC is also following.

“It was the same thing that the AFC is also following and from 2017 onwards the clubs failed to get the AFC clubs license than those clubs would not be able to participate in the AFC Cup. So it is a good thing for us to follow that.”

Maldivesoccer.com can confirm that there are some clubs who are having an outstanding to the world footballs governing body FIFA.
