FAM introduces season tickets

Season ticket and a VVIP pass. FAM has introduced season tickets today.

Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives has introduced season tickets and issued it to the top flight eight clubs today in a function held at FAM House.

Speaking at the function general secretary of FAM, Bassam Adeel Jaleel has said that this will be big change that the new management of FAM has introduced and it will help the clubs to improve their income.

“This is a big change that the new management of FAM has introduced and it will help the clubs to improve their financial status. The clubs has the right to sell the tickets and they can decide the prices as well.”

FAM has issued the season tickets to the referees and also they have provided VVIP tickets to the top officials of the clubs.

Bassam also added that they will print the name on the card of the season ticket holder from next season when the clubs inform the members who have bought the season tickets.

Good attempt by FAM for the avid football fans but it leaves a lot to be desired. People can misuse it very easily without identification details. All you need to is throw out the card for your friend waiting outside, and he can do the same for another friend, and so on, for as many as they want. So without a way to identify the ownership of the card it will be massively misused in the present way it is decided to be sold.

To be fair, this also happens in the big leagues. For an example, I see a lot of times on Premier League club forums about fans letting their friends or family members borrow their season ticket for matches they cannot attend. Unfortunately, the whole scamming culture is now quite prevalent, and is spreading like a disease even further here in Maldives and this could become problematic like you mentioned. I still think the clubs should hire their own PR people and try to promote themselves instead of making FAM do all the work. They each got MVR 2 million this year, surely they can spare some of that cash for PR guy. And a fitness trainer to boot!
