Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives women’s football team won their first ever international match in a competitive tournament after beating Afghanistan by 1-0 in the ongoing 3rd SAFF Women’s Football Championship in Pakistan.
Mariyam Rifa scored the only goal against Afghanistan in the first half of the match.
An official from the National women’s football team said tomaldivesoccer.com that the team played very well during the match.
“We played very well especially in the first half of the match. But during the last 20 minutes Afghaninistan dominated the game.”
“We got two more chances to score but failed and our captain Fadhuwa’s performance was outstanding in this match.”
Maldives lies on the third position of the table with 3 points from two games. Maldives will play against Bangladesh on Monday in their last game of the group.
