Five Afghan players to miss semi

Male’, MALDIVES – Afghanistan’s head of delegation Sayed Ali Kazemi has said that the five players injured in team bus accident will miss the semifinal.

In an interview given to the official website of AFC, Sayed said that all the five players will miss the semifinal against Palestine.

“Some of the players need three days and some of the players need one week. If we reach the final maybe some of the players can play, but we do not know,”

“All the players are in shock and they are not normal today, but hopefully they will all be ok for Tuesday.”

Due to the traffic accident players including Afghanistan captain Haroon Fakhruddin, Faisal Sakhizada, Mustafa Azadzoy, Belal Arezou and Ahmed Hatifi as well as their team coach Kargar, team manager Mohamed Farid Yasin and head of delegation Kazemi suffered minor injuries.

According to him Azadzoy is expected to need atleast three weeks to recover, while Hatifi will be sidelined for around two weeks.

Afghanistan team is set to return to Male tonight ahead of the semifinal against Palestine.

AFF requested AFC to delay the semifinal but was rejected. AFC clearly does not care about the plight of emerging/developing nations. Imagine if something like this happened to Korea or Qatar...I'm sure that they would've postponed the remaining matches of the tournament and rescheduled it. This is really sad, because I was hoping Afghanistan would give a really strong performance in the remaining matches and make the tournament really competitive. My heartfelt condolences to all Afghan fans. Now I hope your team will win the semifinal against all the odds.
