Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives (FAM) and Pakistan Football Federation is trying to arrange an international friendly match between 10th and 15th February 2013. Speaking to maldivesoccer.com, FAM president Ali Azim said that they have informed the PFF authorities regarding the possible dates.

“We have informed them regarding our preferences. We are waiting for them to inform regarding the dates”

"They have informed that they would prefer to have the matches after 15th of this month. But we would like to have it before that date. We are waiting for a final word from them"

According to reliable sources, PFF initially wanted the tournament to be held in early February, but the dates were not feasible as the national stadium will be used for the youth championship 2012.

Maldives have got an automatic qualification spot for AFC Challenge Cup 2014 as the hosts and FAM is trying to arrange friendly matches to build up the team for the tournament.

Am pleased to see that finally our team has thought of getting ready for a tournament with ample time. I feel that winning the aft challenge cup should be our next goal and any other tournaments including the saff championship and other friendlies which may fall between now and afc challenge cup should only be used as training and preparing tournaments for the challenge cup. I would welcome to see coach try new ideas and to try and implement new tactics to polish our team to the challenge cup. One more request to FAM and national coach and teams is to work together and to implement a fitness and tactical regime at club level too. Players bring to the national team what they gain at club level. I wish all the success to maldivian football and may Allah grant us all the wisdom to work towards success.
