Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives lost their FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Hong Kong by 1-0 today here in the capital city of Maldives, Male. Paulo scored the only goal for the visitors in the first half.
Maldives missed a good chance to break the deadlock in the 10th minute when Asadhulla’s effort was cleared off the line by a Hong Kong’s defender.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 13th minute from a penalty kick by Paulo when the referee gave them a penalty kick when keeper Imran brough down Paulo inside the box.
In the 28th minute keeper Imran blocked a good shot from Paulo inside the box and Rasheed cleared the shot from Alessandro from the rebounded ball.
In the 48th minute Ashfaq made a good shot just out side the box but it went straight to the gloves of the keeper.
In the 67th minute Ahmed Nashid made a good attempt just out side the box from a free kick which went inches over the bar.
In the extra time of the game, substitute player Naaiz’s header inside the box went wide from a good cross from Ahmed Abdulla from the right flank.
With this win Hong Kong lies on second position of the table with 13 points from from 6 games.
Maldives will play their next FIFA World Cup qualifier against China on 16th March 2016.
