Incheon, SOUTH KOREA – Indian women’s football team thrashed Maldives women’s team by 15-0 in today’s match in the ongoing 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

India scored 9 goals in the first half and Maldives players were forced to be in the defending half through out the game. In the second minute of the game Hawwa Haneefa missed a golden opportunity to break the deadlock when she missed to put the ball into an empty net.

Maldives made some changes in the second half of the game and they minimize the goals in the second half.

National team coach Ibrahim Haleem (Jadaa) said that he is happy with the performance and the result of the match against a team like India.

“I am happy with the result and the performance of team against a team like India, who are much better than us.”

“India prepared very well for the tournament and they are one of the best teams in the region and during the match they have showed that on the pitch.”

Maldives will play against host South Korea on 17th of this month.

What kind of coach is this? He is happy with the result despite our women’s team has been drubbed with a volley score. Is he just content with life and the fact they are taking part in the tournament in South Korea? Whoever is happy when you conceded 15 goals against your south Asian neighbour is complete misfit, trying to fool others. He should be shown the door immediately, he is tactically naïve and too inexperienced.

Ouch! 15 goals leaked against India, I fear for the matches against Thailand and hosts South Korea. I think we are all in agreement that this tournament is way too soon for Maldives ladies to participate. First we should try to get a foothold in the Women's SAFF Championship before going continental.

"Very happy with the performance"?? How the hell can one be happy with a 15-0 thrashing?? Maldives are nowhere near ready for such a tournament. This has shades of the ill-fated World Cup qualifiers the of the men's team in 1997. Back then, it was a wake-up call for the authorities to invest more in our football. Hopefully this will be the same for the women's team.
