International football academy to open in Addu City

Male’, MALDIVES – Club Valencia’s former player and Maldives Olympic Committee’s general secretary Ahmed Marzooq has signed a MOU with The Next Generation Sports (TNG) to open an international soccer academy in Addu City.

In an exclusive interview given to Maldivesoccer today, Marzooq said that he is trying for this for the last two years and it will be a big project to take the Maldives football to the next level.

“I was working for this for the last two years and it will be a big project to take the Maldives football to the next level.” Marzooq, who is in Spain said today.

“With this understanding we will have the chance to send Maldives players to Spanish giants Levante, Valencia and Vilareal.”

Marzooq also reiterated that it is not only the players who will be benefiting from this.

“Next Generation also agreed to train Maldivian coaches and give them opportunity for exchange programs with these clubs. And also they help to develop our management and administration staffs under their curriculum. ”

Marzooq also said that former national team assistant coach Ali Nashid will be working with him to make it a success.

“Ayya gave lots of ideas about it and he will work with me in this project.”

He also added that he will start to work to fund raise for this project when he returns to Maldives.

“It will be an expensive project and we will start to work to fundraise for this event when we returns. I urge the businessmen in the Maldives to help us to make it happen. Specially the Addu City businessmans, who are tirelessly helping us in these kind of things.”

Marzoog also said that they are working to start the project in june this year.
