When it comes to football Maldives media always go overboard, they hype things to the point of absurdity. This was no different; it was hyped as a clash of Ashfaq vs Kane. The expectation was Ashfaq to score couple of goals but nobody had slightest idea for how long he would on the pitch and in what position. They had already decided he would show his prowess in front of the world. As it happened, coach strangely played him not at his best position and tucked him too deep in midfield. Guess what happen when a striker is playing in the midfield against such a good team like Tottenham Hotspur. For much of the game his team was chasing the ball and in the few times he got the ball he was kind of rushed up because he was feeling the expectation of his home country fans. He wanted to make an impact so badly. But he spurned a golden opportunity he got to grace the occasion. It was just before their winning goal. He ran all the way from middle of the half and as soon as reached the box dragged his shot wide of post. On another day and against a lesser side he would have rounded off the keeper and coolly slotted an empty net. Instead here he was too worked up by the occasion and media overcooked it and made it a deflating experience for everybody concerned with Maldives golden boy.
