Male’, MALDIVES – Maziya’s head coach Ali Suzain has said that the People’s Cup will help a lot to improve the level of Maldivian football.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference he said the tournament will help the Maldivian football and Maziya too but this is not a test tournament.

“This tournament will help Maziya as well as Maldivian football but we don’t take this tournament just to test players. We will take this tournament very seriously.”

“We have experienced players and three of the four foreign players are very good. So those players are not new for such a tournament.”

Suzain also said that LionsXII team will be physically very fit as they are a very young team.

“LionsXII team is a young team and I am sure their fitness level will be very good and they will be very balanced but it is not a problem for us.”

Suzain also reiterated about the return of Ali Ashfaq to National Football Stadium.

“We are happy that Ashfaq is coming with PDRM for this tournament and the supporters will be happy to see him.”

Maziya will play their first game against LionsXII tomorrow at 1600 hours.

What will help maldives football is not once in a blue moon international club tournament but carefully stratagised diciplined approach towards development of players. Even now - it is only a couple of days before the tournament - we see our top players lighting up a fag with a friend in the dark, forgotten corners of Male' city, draging on it long and hard,  the thin frame mistaking them for undernourished person. If you want to be a good player you need to show good dicipline off the field too. Not a cancerstick in your mouth every now and then.
