Maldives U 23 team departs to Oman

Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives Under 23 national football team has departed to Oman today for the 2016 AFC Under 23 Championship Qualifying matches.

Assad Abdul Ghani, head coach of under 23 team said to media before their departure that he is satisfied with the preparation of the team.

“I am very happy with the preparation for this tournament. When we started the practice our senior team coach Popov was with us during all the practices and it helped us a lot.”

“Our opponents are very different team but I want to say that the current under 23 team was one of the best so far we have selected and we are hoping for a good result in this tournament. But we have to know that still our players need experience."

Mohamed Irufan has been appointed as the captain of the team today and the vice-captain is Mohamed Muslih.

Maldives will play their first fame against Lebanon on Monday at 2130 hours Maldives time. The other teams in this group are Oman, Iraq and Lebanon.
