Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives Under 23 has won the Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football Tournament after beating Pakistan Under 23 by 2 – 1 in the finals. Rilwan scored the opening goal from a free kick and he supplied a good through ball to Asadhullah who curled in to the goal to score the second. Pakistan scored their only goal in the 84th minute from the penalty spot. Keeper saved the initial penalty, but it deflected off the defender.
Maldives coach Istvan Urbanyi was sent off to the spectator’s area after he confronted the match officials.
Imaz’s free kick in the early minutes of the game, but it went outside.
Pakistan came close to score in the 27th minute after their captian managed to get the ball from a mistake by Rilwan. But his shot outside the penalty area hit the crossbar.
Pakistan came close yet again a minute later. The shot by Pakistan player from a cross was defended over the line by Yamin.
Pakistan got superb chance to take the lead in the 40th minute. Pakistani captain headed a cross inside the penalty area, but it went wide off the target.
Imaz’s took a shot at the dying minutes of the first half, but Pakistani goalkeeper punched it away for a corner kick.
Rilwan scored the opening goal for Maldives in the 51st minute from a superb free kick. Imaz was brought down just outside the penalty area and Maldives was awarded a free kick.
Rilwan gave a neat through ball to Asadhullah who curled into the corner of the goal to score the second goal for Maldives.
Pakistan scored their goal from the penalty spot in the 86th minute. Pakistan’s penalty kick was saved by keeper Jazlaan, but the rebounded ball was shot deflected off the defender to the corner of the goal.
Maldives, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh took part in the tournament.
